BIO.
Murphy Phelan’s journey to becoming an illustrator is not exactly the typical story. To start, he had a run of jobs that included “store artist” at Tower Records (remember them?), window installer at construction sites, and housekeeper at an international hostel, before coming to a crossroads in life. Relocating from San Diego to Portland, a change of scenery brought with it a change in life and career. He went back to school to study graphic design, and that’s when he found illustration.
Now, some fifteen years later, Murphy finds himself running his own one-man show, creating illustrations for record covers, coffee bags, gig posters, decks of playing cards, editorial magazines, and even a few murals.
